The digital nautical instrument display of the GMI 20 unit is perfectly designed for sailing and motor boats. It has been designed to clearly show the depth, speed, wind direction and the more than 100 nautical and boat parameters. Its large bright 4″ color screen with extra-large digits is easy to read from a distance and with a viewing angle of 170 degrees.
The glass with a vitrified finish prevents it from clouding and increases the level of contrast. Sunlight readability has been improved with a high-contrast color palette. For better night visibility, you can choose between a color palette in red/black, green/black or the normal night mode along with a light dimmer control. The screens can be set to the automatic scrolling mode, which automatically scrolls through the pages without you having to do anything. This is especially useful for navigators, since it allows them to install the unit or units in other locations of the boat. The default profiles can be customized to motorboat, sailboat, fishing, engine/fuel, in addition to many other user-specific profiles. The NMEA 2000® network is the one that provides power.
In addition, the GMI 20 unit has an exclusive countdown timer with internal beep. It includes 2 options of pressure covers of the trim piece that allow you to adjust the GMI 20 unit to the new GPSMAP® 500/700 series, GPSMAP 8000 with glass rudder or the previous Garmin plotters.

To prevent corrosion, cover unused connectors with the attached weather caps.
For long runs, use at least 0.33 mm² (22 AWG) wire to maintain proper connection quality.
Yes, it can receive NMEA 0183 data from one device using a NMEA data cable (not included). Wiring diagrams and color codes are provided.
The mounting surface must be flat and strong enough to support the device and protect it from vibration or shock.
It can receive DBT, DPT, GRMB, GRME, GSV, HDG, HDM, HDT, MWV, RMB, RMC, VHW, and XTE sentences when connected to a compatible device.
Wear safety goggles, ear protection, and a dust mask when drilling, cutting, or sanding. Check the opposite side before drilling.
Set Page Scaling to None in the print dialog, use Auto-Rotate and Center. After printing, measure the template to ensure correct length and width before using it to cut the mounting surface.
Ensure that the printed template’s dimensions match the actual size of your mount to avoid an incorrect cutout.
Use the included NMEA 2000 cables and connectors to connect the device; the network provides both power and data.
No. Connect the NMEA 2000 power cable to the ignition switch or another in-line switch to avoid battery drain.
If the NMEA 0183 device has only one Tx wire, connect both to a common ground; if it has two Tx wires, a common ground isn’t needed.
Yes, flush mount is possible using the included template and hardware. Follow the template closely for correct sizing and placement.
A NMEA 2000 Power Isolator should be used if the NMEA 2000 network manufacturer is unknown.
The NMEA 2000 input voltage is from 9 to 16 V DC.
The unit’s maximum voltage is 32 V DC.
