Our autopilot system with greater responsiveness in the water
- 9-axis solid-state course and position reference system (AHRS)
- It reduces course errors, route deviation, rudder movement and energy consumption, while offering a comfortable trip
- Simple commissioning and calibration
- It supports the modes of course control, wind control, turns by steps and turn/turn
Garmin provides advanced nautical technology for users in the field of navigation previously available only for commercial boats in a complete package designed for sailing and motor boats. The Reactor 40 series of autopilots provides the most responsive autopilot system we have offered so far.
Reactor 40 automatic pilots are very versatile. In the corepack, functions are offered for sailing and motor navigation, including course control, wind control, turn/trash, step turns and many more. You just have to select the autopilot compatible with your boat’s steering system. In the event that you do not locate a compatible Reactor 40 unit, you will see that the reactor 40 package mechanical by solenoid and with the possibility of integration with existing systems is compatible with a wide variety of steering systems, both hydraulic, electronic, mechanical and by solenoid. You just have to link a GRF™ 10 unit with the drive system included on board.
The reactor 40 autopilot corepack mechanical by solenoid and with the possibility of integration with existing systems is perfect for sailing and motor boats with cable steering or direct connection systems. This under-deck Autopilot System Reactor 40 provides the captain with that “additional pair of hands” he needs so that he can take care of his candles, jacks, winches and spokes without worries. Thanks to its 9-axis solid-state AHRS system, Reactor 40 can be installed in virtually any place and orientation, and has a very simple operation.
9-axis solid-state AHRS technology
The advanced 9-axis solid-state AHRS system allows you to install the Reactor 40 unit in virtually anywhere and orientation. In addition, this new system significantly reduces course errors, route deviation, rudder movement and energy consumption, while offering a comfortable trip for all passengers.
Ability to react to sea conditions
In fact, this excellent autopilot responds to the state of the sea to stay the course. Even when pitching and swinging movements occur, the Reactor 40 autopilot guarantees that you maintain the desired course.
Simple commissioning and calibration
All autopilots, without exception, require a commissioning and calibration process. We know that what you want is to get into the water, that’s why we have streamlined and simplified this process as much as possible. That’s what the concept “The Power of Simple” consists of.
Full integration with Garmin plotters
By combining it with our network-connected compatible plotter, you can have full control over the Reactor 40 unit from anywhere on the boat. In addition to keeping the course under practically all kinds of weather and wind conditions, the system can also fluidly carry out a series of pre-programmed fishing and search procedures. In addition, with a compatible Garmin plotter connected to the network and the BlueChart® g2 Vision® cards (sold separately), you will be able to access additional functions such as AutoRuta1, which controls the rudder automatically following the GPS routes.
Stay in control with Shadow Drive technology
In hydraulic installations, the corepack of automatic pilot Reactor 40 mechanical by solenoid and with the possibility of integration with existing systems includes the optional patented Shadow Drive technology. This gives you the security of knowing that you will maintain control even with the autopilot activated. The Shadow Drive system automatically deactivates the autopilot if the rudder is turned, giving you the freedom to maneuver the ship. The autopilot is automatically reactivated when a fixed course is maintained.
3 classes of activating units available
Reactor 40 is available with 3 linear drive systems (sold separately) compatible with multiple steering systems on almost any medium to large vessel (depending on the specific installation). All Garmin linear drive systems include an integrated rudder response sensor.
- Class A drive unit: up to 12,927 kg of displacement
- Class B compact drive unit: up to 21,953 kg of displacement
- Class B actorator unit: up to 35,833 kg of displacement
Even more tranquility
Add an optional Rudder response sensor GRF 10 and you can improve the performance of the Reactor 40 autopilot.

FAQs
Compare the helm control RPM readings with the boat’s tachometer(s). Mismatched readings may indicate a problem with the NMEA 2000 source or connection.
If installed on a hydraulic steering system, enable or disable Shadow Drive in the helm control or chartplotter setup menu.
Calibration is done with the boat steady and flat, following onscreen instructions. Retry or relocate the CCU if the quality is low.
On the helm control or chartplotter, select Class A, Class B, Solenoid, or Other, depending on your installed drive unit.
A qualified marine installer with specific knowledge of hydraulic steering and marine electrical systems should install the autopilot to avoid damage.
To avoid damage, the autopilot should be installed by a qualified marine installer with knowledge of hydraulic steering and marine electrical systems.
If not a solenoid drive unit, center the rudder, then use helm or chartplotter prompts to tune automatically.
